The US Consulate, Mumbai, is observing Women’s History Month with an online photo contest for Indians, till March 15, 2015.

The International Women’s Day is coming up soon (on March 8), but for the US Consulate, Mumbai, the festivities have already begun. The US Consulate, Mumbai is celebrating Women’s History Month all through March with an online photo contest on the theme ‘Make It Happen.’

As per the contest rules, you have to send your photo taken in India, celebrating the roles and accomplishments of women on any one of the contact coordinates (listed at the bottom of this article),
The photo must be an original one, which shows how women can have a positive influence on their families, neighborhoods, communities, country, and the world. The shot must be an action one, celebrating women’s achievements and highlights the important role they play. Photos need to be the original work of the contestants, and to be shot in India within the past two years.

The contest is open to Indian nationals residing in the five states of the Consular district: Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra. Once a photo is submitted, it is considered a final submission and may not be modified or edited, or replaced. Contestants may submit no more than five photos, and only one photo will be eligible for a prize. Look up www.facebook.com/mumbai.usconsulate/events for full contest rules and submission guidelines.

Participate: Film making contest on ‘women’s safety’

Every initiative that promotes gender equality and addresses issues like gender-based violence must receive maximum participation. Coupled with a medium like film, such initiatives only serve to ensure maximum reach and interest.

The US Consulate, Mumbai recently announced its ’16 days of activism against Gender Violence’ global campaign, and to kickstart it in India, it opened a filmmaking contest from today, October 21, 2014. The contest theme is ‘Women’s safety and empowerment’ and seeks video submissions of three to five minutes duration on the theme.

Videos can be in the form of stories, testimonials, public service announcements, ads, or any other suitable format that stays true to the theme. Interested participants must send their complete videos and other relevant details to cgmumbaifilmfest@gmail.com.

Online photo contest: ‘Ordinary women, extraordinary work’

US Consulate brings an online photo competition on the occasion of Women’s Day. You can submit entries till March 31.

In honour of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month in March, the US Consulate General Mumbai is hosting its third annual online photo contest on the theme ‘Ordinary Women, Extraordinary Work.’

The contest will run from March 1 to March 31, 2013 and is open to Indian nationals residing in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Goa. The photographs you submit must belong to you and must not be sourced from anywhere. If you win, your entry will be posted on the Consulate’s website and social media sites. “This is our third year of the contest celebrating women and their valuable place in Indian society. This time we are highlighting ordinary women who overcome the odds to do incredible and inspirational work,” Cultural Affairs Officer Angela L Gemza said.

Photos should be emailed to MumbaiPublicAffairs@state.gov. Additionally, this year the Consulate has introduced a Twitpic category in which contestants can post their pictures on Twitter to @USAndMumbai using the hashtag #OWEWphoto.

All photos will be judged by noted digital artist Rahul Gajjar, press photographer Mukesh Parpiani and a panel of American officers from the US Consulate General, Mumbai. For complete contest rules visit: http://tinyurl.com/OWEWphoto

The prizes include a two-night stay in Goa, plus gift vouchers and other goodies like gym memberships and fitness DVDs.

Feting Obama in Mumbai

A select few in Mumbai watched and applauded as US Consulate Mumbai telecast Barack Obama’s Inaugural Ball in Washington DC.

The US Consul General, Peter Haas and Atul Nishar, President of ‘Namaste America’, co-hosted an inaugural ball in honour of the 44th President of The United States of America, Barack Obama. The Consulate’s Inauguration Ceremony featured a live telecast of the Presidential Address from Washington DC. Bajaj Group was the presenting supporter of this prestigious event.

Popular Bollywood actor Rani Mukerji graced the occasion and was felicitated for her valued contribution to Indian Cinema.

The evening began with a dance performance by renowned choreographer Rahul Saxena and his team of accomplished dancers. The event was attended by a diverse cross-section of Mumbai society. Those in attendance included Dr Alka Nishar, Niraj Bajaj, Anne E Grimes, Deanna Abdeen, Satish Shah, Nisha Jamvwal, Poonam Dhillon, Talat Aziz, Dalip Tahil, Sushma Reddy, Sunita Menon and other prominent personalities.

‘Namaste America’ Indo American Association of Art and Culture promotes and fosters goodwill between the people of the United States of America and India by providing a platform for  cultural and trade exchange particularly in the areas of Education, Media, Entertainment, Science and Sports.

Prepare your US college interview on TV

US Consulate and Channel [V]’s reality show will send two Indian students to US colleges for interview and campus experience.

If you are looking up colleges in the US, you might want to consider the option of trying for a paid trip to three premium colleges in America. Plus, you could be on TV.

The US Consulate Mumbai, in association with Channel [v] India, is bringing College Hunt USA, a three-episode reality show to Indian television in 2013. The show will feature two selected Indian students who will win an all-expenses-paid trip to visit three US colleges for an admission interview and an experience of American campus life. As per rules, registrations are open for Class 12 Indian students looking to study in the US only. Speaking about the show, Consul General Peter Haas said, “We are excited to partner with Channel [v] India on this project, where we will reach out to millions of young Indians. Through such initiatives, the US aims to build stronger people-to-people ties and help make the most of all of our young people’s talents.”
